Korzystając z czasu i okoliczności wybrałem się z mini-pielgrzymką do starożytnego opactwa Glendalough (a raczej jego pozostałości) w górach Wicklow całkiem niedleko Dublina. Kiedy mieszkałem w stolicy Irlandii na stałe to miejsce było dość często przeze mnie odwiedzane. Starożytny zwyczaj celtycki głosił, że 7 pielgrzymek do Glendalough równa się jednej pielgrzymce do Rzymu (bo wiadomo, że wtedy taka pielgrzymka dla tutejszych mieszkańców była nieosiągalna) nawet specjalnie przywieziono na ten znak nieco ziemi ze stolicy Piotrowej. I tak się złożyło, że mi udało się tam być dokładnie 7 razy ;)

Z opactwem związane są osoby dwóch znaczących irlandzkich świętych: Kevina i Wawrzyńca O'Tolle, mimo że dzieli ich 5 wieków, to obaj zapisali się mocno w historii tego miejsca. Dużo by o nich pisać, ale to nie czas i miejsce ;)

Sam prywatnie mam do nich (jak do wielu irlandzkich świętych) wielki duchowy sentyment, kto wie może i ich wstawiennictwo sprawiło że na powrót jestem w Irlandii? Kiedy opuszczałem tę ziemię 2,5 roku temu to właśnie na pożegnanie udałem się tam do Glendalough na prywatne rekolekcje, dziś udałem się z pielgrzymką dziękczynną ;)

-- Despite bad weather I went to Glendalough. Glendalough valley was the site of an early Christian monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century. Over time, this early settlement developed into one of the great monasteries in Ireland whose remains can be seen in the Monastic City today.

I was really touched when I visited Glendalough for the first time some years ago. Because it is not so far from Dublin, when I was living here in Dublin, I had been visiting this place quite often. I just love the place, mountains, lakes, rivers and the beauty of the monastic ruins. If you are sensible to the spiritual reality in Gleandalough you feel that this place is filled by the Holy Spirit.

I have a great devotion to the St. Kevin and St. Laurence O’Toole. St. Kevin founded this place and some centuries later St. Laurence renewed it and later became the first native-born Irishman archbishop of Dublin. Before I went back to Poland 2,5 years ago I spend here some time as a kind of private retreat. I was also asking their intercession for: if that is God's will so I could back to Ireland, and here I am ;) So today I went there just to say 'thank you' to my Irish friends in Heaven ;)
